Job Summary: Working in our training kitchens to support the chef tutor on our cookery courses, you will be required to keep up with general cleaning and washing up duties throughout the day to create a professional working environment running with the up most efficiency in our brand new kitchens.

You will be responsible for making tea and coffee for the start of each session, and setting up the dining area attached to the teaching kitchen.  You will undertake washing up and restocking of the workstations with knives, pans, utensils throughout the day as well as assisting with the end of day clean down of the kitchen.

You will also be supporting the chef tutor throughout the day, and providing assistance to the customers as they undertake their cookery course.

This is very much a customer facing job and you will need to work well under pressure using your own initiative so that our customers experience the high standards of hygiene and cleanliness that are expected within a teaching environment.

The cookery school is located between two sites in central Ashburton. Punctuality is important to this role, and whilst Ashburton has a regular bus service, you should ideally have access to car transport.

Responsible for:
  1. To provide a clean and organised kitchen environment that is ready for the chefs and students to work in.
  2. To provide a warm welcome to students at all times including meeting and greeting
  3. To keep up with any general cleaning and all washing up duties as efficiently as possible to help keep the teaching kitchens running smoothly.
  4. To help set up any ingredients for the next teaching day. This will include exact measuring and scaling of recipes according to preparation lists.
  5. To plan ahead so that the Ashburton Cookery School can run as efficiently as possible and that no time is wasted.
  6. To adhere to all up to date health, safety and hygiene procedures in line with Ashburton Cookery School policies.
Location: Old Exeter Road, Ashburton, Devon TQ13 7LG
Hours: Part time & full time hours available from 8am to 8pm, 7 days.
Days of Work: This is a 7 day a week business and you may be asked to work any day of the week.
This is a shift working position, including weekends and bank holidays and the hours may vary day to day due to the nature of the work
Salary: Competitive hourly rate (dependent on age and experience)
Holiday: 28 days per annum (incl. public holidays).
Qualifications Required: Training will be provided
Skills Required: Training will be provided
Experience: Previous experience of a commercial kitchen environment is ideal but not essential.
