Last week the cookery school was transformed into a bustling restaurant as the Ashburton Chefs’ Academy hosted four dining club evenings for their final term of the 6 month Professional Culinary Diploma programme.
The chef students have been honing their skills in the kitchen for 5 months and these events put their culinary skills to the test. Working in small teams the students design, prepare and cook a 5 course menu for 32 paying guests. Preparation, timings and cooking must all be executed perfectly to ensure excellence. Over the 4 evenings front-of-house service is also provided by students who serve the guests canapés, dishes and wine throughout the meal, gaining an understanding of the importance of co-ordination, communication and attention to detail for every dining experience.
The standard of food and service delivered by the students was excellent and each evening was a great success with all of over 128 tickets sold for the events. Proceeds from the evenings go to support the Bank Youth Project, a charity in Ashburton which provides support services for the young people in the area.
